Welcome to the Kenwood English IV Poetry Blog!

Students from Kenwood's Honors English IV classes have written poems inspired by the poems, poets and poetic forms that they've studied during this term's poetry unit. Some students wrote Ballads and Sonnets while others responded to the work of poets like e.e. cummings, Sylvia Plath and Rainer Marie Rilke. Many poems are profound, heartfelt and deeply insightful. Others are fun and lighthearted. But, all of the poems illustrate the students understanding and appreciation of the genre of poetry. We invite you to read this work and offer your comments. Thank you.

Everlasting Love

Slowly walking into the building, entering my love
Smelling the sweat and tasting the struggles of the masters before me,
I was home.
This is where the value of art lies, brushing at the soles of aspiring children,
Learning the power that a single stroke of a gracious hand could evoke

In love.
The twirl of your body and the leap of your legs,
Painting the canvas of your life, your loves, your struggles
The stroke of art like the stroke of my heartstrings moves me.
This is my love, dance

  2. I like the form of your poem. I also like the beginning, even though the place you were in was full of struggles you still aceepted it enough to call it home.
